Tater tots can be boring but with a little effort you can make something boring into something magical and I'll show you how.
Ingredients:
1 bag frozen Tater Tots
1 large Onion, diced and grilled
2 tbsp heaping Ranch Dressing (Hidden Valley Ranch Packet, optional)
2 - 4 heaping tbsp Sour Cream
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese (optional)
2 tbsp of your favorite cajun seasoning (If making your own cheese sauce)
2 cups of milk (if making your own cheese sauce)
2 tbsp all purpose flour (if making your own cheese sauce)
2 tbsp butter (if making your own cheese sauce)
5 - 6 slices of Thick cut Bacon,
Diced 3 - 6 Green Onions or Chives
Directions (Easy Way)
Cook Tots as stated in oven on a baking sheet or cast iron skillet
Slice 5-6 of bacon into small pieces and cook on medium to high heat
Once bacon is done, remove from skillet but leave the grease.
Add onions and sau·té
In a bowl, measure out around 3 tbsp of sour creme and 2 tbsp of ranch dressing and mix. Taste the mix and see what needs to be added. Add some chopped green onions in the mix
Once the tots are ready, add some shredded cheese to the top.
Add your bacon bits and sour cream mixture to the top.
Garnish with green onions!
That's the easy way to do this for beginners. If you want to take it to the next level you can make your own cheese sauce.
Directions ( More challenging)
Deep fry your tots per directions on bag.
Slice 5-6 of bacon into small pieces and cook on medium to high heat
Once bacon is done, remove from skillet but leave the grease.
Add onions and sau·té
In a bowl, measure out around 3 tbsp of sour creme and 2 tbsp of ranch dressing and mix. Taste the mix and see what needs to be added. Add some chopped green onions in the mix
On medium heat In a sauce pan, Add 2 tbsp of butter
Once the butter has melted, add 2 tbsp of all purpose-flour.
Now add your milk and keep whisking.
Add a little bit of cheese at time and continue to whisk.
If it gets too think, add some more milk, but you want to find the consistency you want.
Add about 2 tsp of your favorite cajun seasoning and continue to stir.
Once you reach the consistency you want, it's ready to serve on top of the tots.
Add your bacon bits and sour cream mixture to the top.
Garnish with green onions!
